The Chairman of the Caucasus Muslims Board (CMB), Sheikh-ul-Islam Allahshukur Pashazade, met with the head of the Roman Catholic Church, Pope Leo XIV, during his visit to the Vatican.
AZERTAC reports that the meeting took place after the general audience held in St. Peter's Square. Sheikh-ul-Islam Allahshukur Pashazade conveyed the greetings of the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, and First Vice-President Mehriban Aliyeva to the Roman Pope, stressed the importance of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation's activities in the Vatican over recent years, and provided information about the construction of a second Catholic Church in the country.
The Chairman of the Caucasus Muslims Board stated that it would be a great honor to see Pope Leo XIV in Azerbaijan. It was noted that if the Roman Pope were to visit the country, he would be able to personally witness the interreligious harmony, the high level of state-religion relations, and the multicultural environment in Azerbaijan.
Pope Leo, in turn, expressed his favor towards visiting the country, stating that he would coordinate it according to his work schedule.
