The Sheki Islamic Madrasah was officially registered by the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Azerbaijan on April 11, 1997, based on a submission from the Caucasus Muslims Board (CMB) dated January 29, 1997. It was officially authorized to begin its operations at that time.
What makes the Sheki Islamic Madrasah unique is that it is the first religious educational institution in Azerbaijan to specialize in teaching the recitation of the Holy Quran, specifically the skill of hafiz—memorizing the entire Quran from beginning to end. The madrasah, which was founded by the CMB, provides religious knowledge according to an approved curriculum.
Since its inception, the madrasah has successfully continued its educational program. Its main goal is to raise young hafiz who are dedicated to national and spiritual values and have a broad worldview.
Students who have completed the 6th grade of general secondary school can take part in the entrance exam for the Sheki Islamic Madrasah. The program is three years long and is divided into three stages:
Summer Course: One month
Preparatory Course: One year
Hafiz Course: Two years
Students who successfully complete the madrasah and the hafiz course are awarded a "Hafiz Diploma" by the Caucasus Muslims Board.
Graduates are given a referral from the madrasah to enroll in the Preparatory Course at Baku Islamic University.
The principal of the Sheki Islamic Madrasah is Abdurrahman Nuriyev.
