As part of their Karabakh trip programme, participants of the international scientific-practical conference on the prominent Azerbaijani scholar and theologian-philosopher Sheikh Seyid Yahya Bakuvi Shirvani also visited the city of Shusha.
According to AZERTAC's regional correspondent, the delegation first arrived at Jidir Duzu (Jidir Plain), where they took in the spectacular panoramic views.
They then visited the Upper Govhar Agha Mosque, where they were told that during the nearly 30-year occupation, the city's historic buildings, mosques and monuments had been subjected to Armenian vandalism. After Shusha's liberation, large-scale restoration and reconstruction work was launched. Alongside the building of new infrastructure, significant efforts have been made to restore and protect Shusha's historical and cultural heritage.
The delegation learned that ancient Shusha once had 17 neighbourhoods, each with its own bathhouse, mosque and spring. These historic architectural landmarks, including the mosques, all suffered from Armenian vandalism. Since the city's liberation, the Upper Govhar Agha, Lower Govhar Agha, Saatli, Mamayi and Chol Gala mosques have been restored, and construction of the New Shusha Mosque has begun.
At the end of their visit, the conference participants toured the New Shusha Mosque, which is currently under construction.
