December 19, 2025 — The Chairman of the Caucasus Muslims Board, Sheikhulislam Allahshukur Pashazade, received the Chargé d'Affaires of Iraq in Azerbaijan, Ali Khalil Mustafa.
Touching upon the importance of developing political, historical, and spiritual relations between Azerbaijan and Iraq, Sheikhulislam A. Pashazade recalled his visits to Iraq. He emphasized the great spiritual value for every Azerbaijani in visiting the holy sites located in those lands, as well as the tomb of the great Azerbaijani poet Muhammad Fuzuli. He noted with pride that there have been well-known religious scholars among the Azerbaijanis living in Iraq for centuries.
He stated that preserving and developing the historical, traditional, cultural, and spiritual ties between our countries and peoples is of great importance. Sheikhulislam A. Pashazade spoke about his recent participation and meetings at the 11th Global Forum of the UN Alliance of Civilizations held in Riyadh, and expressed the importance of meeting with influential religious scholars and well-known ulema in Iraq.
The Iraqi diplomat, in turn, gratefully emphasized the activities of Sheikhulislam A. Pashazade, a respected religious figure of Caucasus Muslims, towards deepening Azerbaijan-Iraq religious and spiritual relations. He expressed pride in the victory gained by Azerbaijan in the Patriotic War, the achievements of the Azerbaijani people, and the high level of relations between our countries.
Noting that the Sheikhulislam's visits to Iraq are of great importance, the Iraqi diplomat pointed out that he would be pleased to see the religious leader of Azerbaijan visit the brotherly country in the near future.
Sheikhulislam A. Pashazade wished the Iraqi diplomat success in his activities and efforts to further strengthen the bridges existing between our peoples and states.
